Saverio Perugini, Ph.D.
Saverio Perugini is a Professor of Mathematics and Computer Science at Ave Maria University. Prior to joining Ave Maria University, Perugini was a tenured faculty member in the Department of Computer Science at the University of Dayton for eighteen years, where he taught a variety of undergraduate and graduate courses in computer science, including programming languages, operating systems, and human-computer interaction, and served as the undergraduate program director (2013-2017). In Fall 2022, Perugini joined Ave Maria University to launch and direct the computer science program.
Perugini has published over forty refereed papers in scholarly journals and conferences in the areas of artificial intelligence, human-computer interaction, and programming languages. In 2017, he was awarded an NSF IUSE grant, which resulted in part in a laboratory manual, co-authored with colleagues, for use in teaching operating systems. Over the years, he has advised and mentored undergraduate students toward success in graduate school and industry.
In 2023, Perugini published a textbook on programming languages titled Programming Languages: Concepts and Implementation with Jones & Bartlett Learning. He is currently working on three book manuscripts with the tentative titles Linux Programming with Go, The Little Book of Contemporary Concurrency Models, and An Introduction to Computer Science: A Liberal Arts Perspective. In 2023, Dr. Perugini recorded a short course titled An Introduction to Computer Science in Ave Maria University’s Pursuit of Wisdom short course series.
Perugini is leading the AI Month in the The Institute and teaches a course in Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning at Ave Maria University.
Perugini is a senior member of the Association for Computing Machinery (ACM) and the IEEE Computer Society, and a Fellow in The Institute at Ave Maria University. Perugini has a Ph.D. in Computer Science at Virginia Tech (2004).
